V The Original Mini-Series (Original airdate May 1 and 2 1983)

Mike Donovan is filming in El Salvador with his partner Tony, when suddenly enormous spaceships emerge in the sky. The spaceships appear all over the world and everyone is waiting for what is going to happen next. it doesn't take long before the leader of the extraterrestrial fleet, John, starts speaking to the people. He looks exactly like us. John tells mankind that they have some environmental problems on their home planet. Therefore he is wondering if mankind can help them with the development of certain chemicals.
A while later, reporters are invited into the spaceship and it doesn't take long before the visitors and humans work side by side. However, Mike Donovan doesn't trust the aliens and sneaks into the spaceship uninvited. Inside the spaceship, he listens as Diana and Steven talks about how they don't need chemicals from earth and that they don't like humans at all. Later on, Mike films Diana as she eats a living rat. Mike is shocked after the discovery and shortly after he meets another visitor and starts fighting with him. He unmasks him and discovers that they are in fact lizard-like monsters. With the evidence recorded on a videotape, Mike Donovan wants to show his tape to mankind. But the visitors already control the TV organization.

The military is now cooperating with the visitors and Mike Donovan is now wanted by the visitors. Some scientists steal some instruments and one of them gets killed by the visitors when they do it. The aliens kidnap Donovan's son. Donovan boards the mother ship but fails to recover him. He is saved by one of the aliens, Martin and learns of the Visitor's plans to steal Earth's water and take Earth's people as slaves, soldiers, and food.

V: The Final Battle: (Original airdate May 6, 7 and 8, 1984)
Four months have passed since the visitors first arrived on Earth. They manipulate world opinion in their favor and are determined to eradicate the resistance. Many humans now cooperate with the visitors. When Diana makes a public appearance, the Resistance finds a opportunity to expose the Visitors to the world.

Donovan is reunited with his son and joins the international Resistance headed by Ham Tyler and Chris Farber. The first priority is freeing Julie who has been captured and is being held in the visitor mother ship. Meanwhile, Robin who is pregnant by a Visitor goes into labor.

Donovan turns himself over to the aliens in order to save his son. Diana hears her colleagues are plotting against her. She tells her leader that only she can succeed because of a spy she has in the Resistance. Willie, a friendly alien, submits to tests so Julie can develop a biological weapon against the Visitors. The weapon, a red dust, is then used against the Visitors with much success.
